Joyce is the WBA “gold” champion

Though Hughie Fury’s British heavyweight title wasn’t on the line when he challenged Kubrat Pulev last October, the former has elected to vacate “due to injury.” As a result, undefeated Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois have been ordered to go at it for the vacant belt.

Back in October, Joyce (8-0, 8 KO) was ordered to face Fury while Dubois (12-0, 11 KO) fought fellow prospect Nathan Gorman in a final eliminator. Neither materialized, as Fury fell to Pulev, Joyce bulldozed Bermane Stiverne in what was deemed a WBA eliminator at the last minute, and both Dubois and Gorman beat up Razvan Cojanu.

Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, said that Dubois wants the fight should he get past Richard Lartey on April 27th. Considering Joyce is WBA “regular” champ Manuel Charr’s mandatory challenger, though, odds are “The Juggernaut” goes that route instead. Dubois-Gorman would be an excellent fight, though, so here’s hoping they go with that.
