Beamon is ranked #15 by the WBC

Matchroom Boxing has yet to reveal WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada’s opponent for his July 24th headlining appearance on DAZN, but ESPN Deportes reports that a frontrunner has emerged from among the rabble of potential contenders: WBC #15 Dewayne Beamon. Only “a few details” are left to hash out before a fight announcement.

Beamon (17-1-2, 11 KO), a 33-year-old North Carolinian with the cumbersome moniker “Mr. Stop Running,” isn’t the worst victory lap opponent Estrada (39-3, 26 KO) could have picked, though he looks to be woefully outclassed and more notable for his hyper-aggressive self-marketing than for his in-ring accomplishments. Beamon’s five-fight 2018 campaign included a majority draw with Angel Ramos, a six-round UD over a debuting opponent, and a 1-1 duology with journeyman Martin Tecuapetla. He’s coming off of a majority draw against flyweight contender Maximino Flores that was reportedly quite the entertaining little slugfest.

Said slugfest is, weirdly, not listed on BoxRec.

I mean, if Matchroom had its mind set on a nonthreatening foe for Estrada’s homecoming, at least they picked one who’ll try to give us a show.
