Horn is the WBA’s #3-ranked middleweight

Rob Brant vs. Jeff Horn appears to be back on the table. Brant’s co-promoter promoter, Greg Cohen, tells ESPN that a fight between the two is a “very good possibility” if Brant retains his WBA title this Friday and Horn defeats Michael Zerafa on August 31st.

The fight was originally discussed back in February, but never materialized. Horn (19-1-1, 13 KO) was briefly linked to a fight with Murata, but elected to assist his wife in the birth of their second child.

This is, well, a very WBA sort of title matchup. Horn, despite his only “middleweight” bout being a 156-pound catchweight against Anthony Mundine, is actually ranked third at 160 by the sanctioning body, trailing Gennadiy Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs. Admittedly, Brant (25-1, 17 KO), who KO’d Khasan Baysangurov in his first title defense last February, doesn’t have many promotionally viable opponents in those rankings besides #7 Esquiva Falcao, so whatever.

Brant has 3.5” of height and 2.5” of reach on Australia’s Horn.
