The No. 4-ranked WBO middleweight picked up another win this past Saturday.

A top tenner in the middleweight division got a W on Saturday night in DC on a Facebook card, right before Deontay Wilder did a demolition job on Dominic Breazeale in Brooklyn.

Alantez Fox, from the fighting Fox family, took on vet Nick Brinson, and showed the assembled that he deserves to be ranked No. 4 by the WBO. I sat ringside, doing blow-by-blow, and found myself of the belief that Fox is likely moving into his physical prime years, and that promoter Lou DiBella will have himself a guy that will contend for a crown, and quite possibly snag it, in the not too distant future.

The Maryland-based fighter on Monday offered up his take on the stoppage win, which came in round six, as the Brinson corner told the inspector to wave the white flag.

”Well I believe you called it a B+ performance, which in my eyes isn’t too bad at all,” Alantez told me. “My last fight was close to 8 months ago so it felt great to be out there again performing for the home team. I felt strong and pretty sharp. I got hit with some punches I shouldn’t have but that’s a part of the learning process, so I’ll take it. Once we get back in the gym I’ll sharpen the tools up some more and make the next performance that much better!”

The boxer, trained by his father Troy, used his height to great advantage, and his younger brother Mykal watched transfixed and looked to be appreciative of big bro. Alantez rose his record to 25-1-1, and I also asked the promoter DiBella to give me his take on the win over Brinson.

“Statement performance against a solid opponent, Nick Brinson, on short notice. Alantez, when healthy, is a problem for anyone at 160-168. He can fight,” said DiBella.

Alantez scored a knockdown in round one, and the end came at 2:46 of the sixth. Fox had been grinding Brinson, now 19-5-2, down, and the loser’s energy reservoir hit a wall in the fifth. You can see for yourself here.

OK, DiBella, what’s the plan for next for big Fox?

Anyone,” the promoter said. ”A real fighter vs real fighter eliminator of some kind. Alantez knows he has to earn a real big fight and he will fight anyone to get there!”
