Anthony Crolla’s trainer Joe Gallagher
In what may or may not be a bit of mind games that would ultimately likely wind up being pointless, anyway, Anthony Crolla’s trainer Joe Gallagher took issue with the gloves that Vasiliy Lomachenko planned to use for tonight’s fight, which streams live on ESPN+.
Promoter Eddie Hearn says that Gallagher “felt that Lomachenko’s gloves were very light, so he wants them weighed.”
“They didn’t have a set of scales here to weigh the gloves, Joe Gallagher brought his own set of scales, which they didn’t want to particularly use. They said they will weigh them later and Joe wants to see them being weighed. He’s well within his rights, in my opinion to see that. They are a new brand of glove, so they are not something that we’re particularly used to.”
Reports are that they’re a pair of specially-made Rival gloves. I wouldn’t expect this to actually be anything of consequence. If Gallagher insists and insists and insists about this specific pair of gloves, then Lomachenko would probably just wear a different pair and win anyway.
