“Tank” will defend his belt against mandatory challenger Ricardo Nunez.

Gervonta Davis’ July 27 fight against mandatory challenger Ricardo Nunez is official and set for Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, with the 24-year-old WBA super featherweight titleholder excited to bring a world title fight to his home city.

”It was always a goal of mine to bring a world title fight back to my city of Baltimore,” said Davis. “I’m excited and grateful to my team for helping make this happen on Saturday, July 27. Tickets will go fast, so don’t wait on buying them! I can’t wait to put on a great show and to see all my supporters in Baltimore help me make it a night to remember at Royal Farms Arena.”

Davis (21-0, 20 KO) hasn’t fought at home since his fourth pro bout back in 2013, when he stopped club fighter Rafael Casias in the second round at Coppin State University.

Nunez (21-2, 19 KO) is a curious mandatory, since he really hasn’t beaten anyone of note other than Elvis Torres, a then-unbeaten Mexican prospect that Nunez knocked out in 28 seconds about a year ago. But then a lot of mandatories are curious choices.

“My daughter is about to be born and with her in mind I am working very hard for this fight,’’ said the 25-year-old Nunez. “I am dedicating this fight to my daughter and Panama, which has always supported me. I’m thankful for this opportunity and although some people don’t know much about me, after July 27, everyone will know me as the new champion of the world.”
