Someone please just make this fight happen by the end of the year.

130-pound titleholders Gervonta Davis and Tevin Farmer are again going back-and-forth on Twitter, which is nothing new and not even particularly interesting, probably, but it’s Monday and news is slow.

Davis (21-0, 20 KO) and Farmer (29-4-1, 6 KO) both return to action on July 27 in rather unappealing mandatory title defenses. Davis headlines on Showtime against Ricardo Nunez, while Farmer will fight on DAZN against Guillaume Frenois.

Davis, 24, made note of that and called for the fight to happen, and said if he doesn’t he’ll seek Farmer out away from the squared circle:

Farmer, 28, responded in usual form:

And Farmer promoter Eddie Hearn hopped in, too, replying to Davis’ original tweet:

Davis and Farmer have been trading words in the media seemingly forever at this point, then they’ll say they’re not going to do it again, then they do it again. Meanwhile, they both keep fighting guys who aren’t serious contenders in the division, either forced by a mandatory or by choice.

So in short it’s gotten a little tiresome on both sides. A deal here won’t be easily made — Farmer is with DAZN, Davis with PBC — but it’s not an impossible fight to make, either, or at least it shouldn’t be. The card Farmer fights on in July is headlined by a Matchroom fighter against a Top Rank fighter in a 140-pound unification. PBC just sent Andy Ruiz Jr over to Showtime. And Hearn in April sent Anthony Crolla to ESPN to face Vasiliy Lomachenko. It can be done.

Hopefully it will be, and this can just be settled. There’s a story in this fight, it’d be a unification, they’re both top five guys at worst at 130, and it could potentially be an interesting style matchup.

If it doesn’t happen, Farmer has said he wants to fight Joseph Diaz Jr, another guy he’s beefed with on social media before and after the two had a verbal confrontation in Las Vegas during Canelo-Jacobs fight week. Diaz, who through Golden Boy is also with DAZN, would be a much easier fight to make, and not a bad fight, at least.
