De La Hoya tells Mayweather there’s a lot of money to be made in Canelo rematch

Following the press conference for Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya fields some media questions, including about whether or not he was serious about making a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez. De La Hoya has recently made public statements that the rematch could be worth as much as $1.5 billion dollars (which it most assuredly isn’t, but would still be a big deal).

“There’s a lot of money to be made,” De La Hoya said about a Mayweather-Canelo sequel. “I mean, look, he’s retired, but if he wants to come back there’s a lot of money to be made. So the way you should have picked up the phone to make a fight with Ryan [Garcia], pick up the phone and make a fight with Canelo. Easy as that.”

On if Andre Ward would come out of retirement to fight Canelo at 175:

“Imagine Canelo calling out Andre Ward…Don’t you think Andre Ward would come back or a Canelo fight? So the possibilities are endless for Canelo. I mean that’s the beauty of him, he can fight at 160, ‘68, and — for me it’s crazy — but he can fight at 175.”
