Segu is 3-3-1 in his last seven

Former lightweight champion Terry Flanagan now has an opponent for his July 12th appearance in Liverpool on ESPN+.

“Turbo” (33-2, 13 KO) will be looking for his first victory since 2017; he successfully defended his WBO lightweight belt five times after winning it against Jose Zepeda in 2015, but suffered a surprise decision loss to Maurice Hooker in his bid for the sanctioning body’s 140-pound belt. Despite this setback, he received an invite to the Super Series, where he fell to Regis Prograis in the quarterfinals.

Tanzania’s Segu (19-8-2. 6 KO) is, well, about as prototypical an “English fighter bounceback opponent” as you can get save for the plus-.500 record. As far as that “African champion” appellation, the World Boxing Federation African Lightweight Title has existed for 15 months and been contested twice: once between Segu and 10-8-1 David Rajuili, which Segu lost by majority decision, and then a rematch between the two that Segu won.

I’ve got about .75 functional knees, cumulatively, and a willingness to get punched in the face for money. Who do I talk to about fighting British former champions on comeback tours? I clearly meet the standards.

Other notable figures on the card include Jazza Dickens (26-3, 11 KO) against Nathaniel May (21-1, 12 KO) and the latest from Martin Murray (37-5-1, 17 KO).
