Franklin takes a step forward in his career but with more work to do.

Heavyweight prospect Jermaine Franklin (18-0, 13 KOs) took care of business tonight on Showtime, outpointing Rydell Booker (25-2, 12 KOs) over 10 rounds of action. The three official judges turned in scorecards of 99-91, and two cards of 98-92, all in favor of Franklin. BLH scored the fight for Franklin, but closer with a 96-94 scorecard.

Franklin, 25, came into the fight as the much younger and clearly fresher fight, and he set a good pace. He let his hands fly but often left his chin exposed which left a veteran like Booker clean counter opportunities. Booker, 38, didn’t have much of a work rate in this fight by any means, but he was able to land clean shots with good accuracy in spots, taking advantage of Franklin’s wild moments.

With the win Franklin looks to move on with his career as a hopeful to get in the heavyweight mix, but tonight’s fight showed he certainly has some room to improvement if he’s going have a real shot at contending for a title.
