The former airs on DAZN, the latter on FOX PPV
In a welcome bit of common sense, Oscar De La Hoya tells ESPN that the December 5th WBC interim title fight between Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell will air in the afternoon to avoid conflicting with Errol Spence Jr. vs. Danny Garcia, which moved from November 21st to December 5th in Arlington in order to accommodate a limited live audience
“It’s not a logistical nightmare,” said Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, on Monday’s edition of “The 3 Knockdown Rule” podcast. “This fight [Garcia-Campbell] will be in the afternoon. Their fight will be taking place in the evening, so it gives everyone enough time to do what they have to do.”
In addition to the obvious, this should work out well for Campbell’s (20-3, 16 KO) fans back in the UK, who would otherwise have had to stay up late or get up very early to see the former gold medalist face the fast-rising Garcia (20-0, 17 KO) for a crack at Devin Haney’s lightweight belt.
That’s one less unnecessary double-booking. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like we’ll get a similar arrangement on Halloween when Naoya Inoue vs. Jason Moloney goes head-to-head with Gervonta Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz.
