Eddie Hearn is said to be working from a short list of replacement opponents.

With Jarrell Miller officially suspended from action, unified heavyweight titleholder Anthony Joshua is on the hunt for a new June 1st opponent. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, tells Sky Sports that an official announcement on Joshua’s new opponent will be made early next week.

Hearn says being that the fight is set to be held in America, he’d ideally like an American opponent for Joshua, saying it’s unlikely that Dillian Whyte will act as a substitute opponent. So with Whyte out of play, Hearn runs down some other potential options.

“You go through the list: Luis Ortiz; Adam Kownacki; Michael Hunter; Manuel Charr; Agit Kabayel, the European champion who beat Derek Chisora.

”There’s probably seven or eight guys I think would fit the bill. Being an American debut, in an ideal world we would like it to be an American, or someone that fights in America.”

Specifically talking about Ortiz as a possible opponent, Hearn says he’s already reached out to the fighter’s manager who thinks it’s too short notice for Ortiz to take. Hearn disagreed with that assessment of the situation, but says Ortiz’s team will run the opportunity past their fighter to see what he wants to do.

Whomever it will be to step in against Joshua, we’ll know in short order, just don’t get your expectations set too high.
