Arreola is 2-0 since returning from a two-year hiatus

Rising New York heavyweight Adam Kownacki, briefly considered a possible replacement for Jarrell Miller against Anthony Joshua, will face a somewhat less strenuous challenge upon his return to the ring. ESPN reports that a deal “is being finalized” to pit Kownacki against Chris Arreola on August 3rd as part of a PBC on FOX card in Brooklyn.

The card once featured Errol Spence Jr. vs. Shawn Porter, which has since been delayed.

Arreola (38-5-1, 33 KO) apparently retired in 2016 after a one-sided loss to Deontay Wilder, but returned to action last December with a stoppage of Maurenzo Smith. Four months later, he wiped out previously undefeated Jean Pierre Augustin on the Spence Jr.-Mikey Garcia undercard.

“The Nightmare” said after the fight that he intended to retire upon his next defeat, and on paper it looks like that claim will be put to the test. Kownacki (19-0, 15 KO) is eight years younger than Arreola and owns stoppages of solid veterans like Gerald Washington and Artur Szpilka.
