Campbell is Garcia’s mandatory lightweight challenger

Mikey Garcia’s WBC mandatory challenger, Luke Campbell, will join Garcia in Philadelphia on March 15th, taking a tune-up while Garcia faces Errol Spence Jr. in the main event.

Campbell (19-2, 15 KO) unsuccessfully challenged Jorge Linares for the belt in 2017, surviving an early knockdown to force a razor-thin split decision. He went on to beat last-second opponent Troy James, who weighed more than 10 pounds heavier than Campbell, last May, then avenged his loss to Yvan Mendy on the Anthony Joshua-Alexander Povetkin card.

Campbell-Garcia would be an excellent fight, one of the better options for Garcia at 135 besides the obvious Lomachenko unification match. Here’s hoping Mikey goes back to his proper weight class after this.

The card will also feature David Benavidez returning to action against J’Leon Love, Chris Arreola continuing his comeback campaign against Jean Pierre Augustin, and former heavyweight champion Charles Martin fighting unbeaten Gergory Corbin.
