Magdaleno will fight in Philadelphia on Carl Frampton’s undercard.

Former super bantamweight titleholder Jessie Magdaleno, now competing at featherweight, will probably face Rafael Rivera in his next outing on Aug. 10, part of an ESPN card in Philadelphia headlined by Carl Frampton vs Emmanuel Dominguez in another featherweight bout.

Magdaleno (26-1, 19 KO) beat Nonito Donaire in Nov. 2016 to win the WBO super bantamweight title, and defended once against Adeilson dos Santos in 2017 before losing the belt to Isaac Dogboe in April 2018. He last fought on March 23, beating Rico Ramos in your average miserable Rico Ramos fight.

Rivera (27-3-2, 18 KO) is a 25-year-old Mexican fighter who was last seen by most on Feb. 16, losing to WBA titleholder Leo Santa Cruz. He returned on May 31, beating David Godinez in Tijuana. He’s far from a world-level fighter, and Magdaleno would be a big favorite, but it would work for Top Rank trying to keep Magdaleno in the mix for a bigger fight at 126 with WBO titleholder Oscar Valdez or Frampton down the line.
