The Mexican warrior won a lot of new fans tonight with his all-offense style, and also won the WBC flyweight title.

Live coverage for Jacobs vs Chavez continues here!

Martinez (15-1, 12 KO) and Rosales (29-5, 20 KO) both came out throwing shots, and the first two rounds were fantastic for fans, with both landing. But Martinez, the shorter and more compact man, took over from the third round on, battering the game Rosales, a former titleholder himself, until referee Raul Caiz stepped in to stop it in the ninth round.

At the time of stoppage, Bad Left Hook had it 78-74 and 79-73 in favor of the 24-year-old Mexican warrior, who fluidly switched stances, landed lots of great uppercuts, and came at interesting angles all night, both leading and countering effectively.

It seems we have a potential new star in the flyweight division based on his performances this year. He’s beaten down Rosales, trucked Edwards (despite the official result), and got it all kicked off with an upset over the highly-regarded Andrew Selby.

Martinez, who trains with the same team that prepare Canelo Alvarez, says he’s looking for the big fights going forward.

“We want to follow in Saul’s footsteps,” he said. “We’re going to go for all the titles against whomever, wherever.”
