Both men were slated to compete in spring before the coronavirus hit

Travel restrictions have severely limited promoters’ ability to set up post-quarantine fights, but as it turns out, there are exceptions. After being contacted by Top Rank, Australia’s Jason and Andrew Moloney received clearance to travel to Las Vegas, where they’re currently preparing to appear on a show.

“If Andrew wasn’t the world champion and Jason wasn’t the WBO number two (contender) we wouldn’t have got the exemptions,” [manager Tony] Tolj said. “I rang the boys on the Thursday and said ‘boys pack your stuff.’ I got the flights ready for Friday. We had to go to Sydney overnight there and then Sydney to San Francisco and San Francisco to Las Vegas. Everyone in the Top Rank staff can’t understand, (saying) ‘it’s a miracle that you guys have been able to get in the country when we can’t even get Mexicans and Canadians.’”

According to Tolj, TBA currently has both assignments; Andrew (21-0, 14 KO), the interim WBA super flyweight champion and mandatory challenger for Roman Gonzalez, was slated to defend his belt against Israel Gonzalez in March, while Jason (20-1, 17 KO) was expected to fight Joshua Greer in a bantamweight eliminator as part of the April 25th Naoya Inoue-John Riel Casimero card.

Tolj says that Andrew “may not” defend against I. Gonzalez and that Jason’s opponent is still to be determined. Jason vs. Greer is theoretically still feasible considering both men are currently based in the U.S.

The pair could see action by the end of next month, as Bob Arum intends to put on multiple small cards per week starting in June.
