Thurman returned from a two-year layoff in January

Good news! Errol Spence Jr. won’t be fighting Manny Pacquiao next. According to Mike Coppinger, the 40-year-old “Pac-Man” could instead face Keith Thurman in July on pay-per-view, with Spence instead facing Shawn Porter later in the year.

I’m, like, 85% sure this isn’t an April Fools thing. I hope you all appreciate me putting my impeccable reputation on the line for you.

Despite Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KO) hitting the big 4-0, this is honestly a much more intriguing fight than it would have been back in 2017, when Thurman (29-0, 22 KO) was riding high off of decisions over Porter and Danny Garcia. “One Time” had a surprising amount of trouble against Josesito Lopez in January, while Pacquiao handily defeated Adrien Broner one week prior. Though Thurman was admittedly coming back from a massive layoff, it was worrying enough to make Pacquiao a live dog despite the former’s size, youth, and power.
