Gervonta Davis needed to strip down to make weight but he cleared the 130-pound weight limit on Friday, checking in at 129 3/4 pounds, which was slightly heavier than Leo Santa Cruz, who was 129 1/2 pounds.

The fight will be contested for the WBA junior lightweight title, and will headline a Showtime pay-per-view on Saturday night from The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Davis (23-0, 22 knockouts) of Baltimore, Md., is fighting for the first time since stopping Yuriorkis Gamboa in 12 rounds last December. Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KOs) has been inactive longer, last fighting in November of 2019 when he outpointed Miguel Flores for the title belt being contested.

There will be three other bouts on the broadcast. Earlier in the night, Mario Barrios (25-0, 16 KOs) will face Ryan Karl (18-2, 12 KOs) in a 12-round junior welterweight bout for the WBA secondary title held by Barrios. Barrios weighed in at 139 1/2 pounds while Karl was right at the 140-pound limit.

Not everyone was as successful at making 140 pounds. Regis Prograis (24-1, 20 KOs) weighed in at 141 1/2 pounds for his 10-round fight against Juan Heraldez (16-0-1, 10 KOs), who weighed in at 139 1/2 pounds. The two reached an agreement for the fight to proceed with a higher weight allowment.

Heraldez is coming off a majority draw with former titleholder Argenis Mendez in May of 2019 while Prograis is fighting for the first time since his majority decision loss to Josh Taylor last October in the World Boxing Super Series final.

In an IBF lightweight title eliminator, Isaac Cruz (19-1-1, 14 KOs) will face Diego Magdaleno (32-3, 13 KOs). Cruz weighed in at 132 pounds while Magdaleno checked in at 134 3/4 pounds.
