Notes: Last week we had a long and involved discussion about whether Ruiz should rank No. 1 or not. Obviously I didn’t go that way. ESPN and The Ring also put Ruiz in at No. 3, but BoxRec and TBRB have Ruiz No. 1. I still say there’s a good argument for either. Nobody had the guts to put Ruiz No. 2 and say there’s separation between Fury and Wilder. Fury makes his case this weekend. If he sucks against Tom Schwarz, I may re-think the whole thing — you know, because I can. I could put Dillian Whyte No. 1, you can’t stop me.

Upcoming Fights: (1) Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz, June 15 … (10) Joseph Parker vs Eric Molina, June 29 … (5) Dillian Whyte vs (9) Oscar Rivas, July 20 … (2) Deontay Wilder vs (6) Luis Ortiz, TBA

Notes: Kevin Lerena picked up a win on Saturday over Vasil Ducar, but that doesn’t change hist standing. This is a huge weekend for the division: we’ve got Briedis-Glowacki, which is really a No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup, plus Dorticos-Tabiti and Makabu against Dmitry Kudryashov.

Upcoming Fights: (2) Mairis Briedis vs (4) Krzysztof Glowacki, June 15 … (5) Yunier Dorticos vs (9) Andrew Tabiti, June 15 … (7) Junior Makabu vs Dmitry Kudryashov, June 16 … (3) Murat Gassiev vs Joey Dawejko [heavyweight], July 27

160 61119 - Rankings (June 11, 2019): GGG stays firm, Fury up next

Notes: GGG is back, winning his 164-pound catchweight fight against Steve Rolls. It was the mismatch that was expected, with nitpicking about Golovkin taking a few clean shots against a guy he didn’t fear. Golovkin looked essentially like Golovkin looks against opponents like Rolls. I shouldn’t even say “nitpicking,” there were finer points to notice for sure, but to me, the approach Golovkin has against guys at the Rolls level doesn’t match his approach against guys like Canelo, Jacobs, even David Lemieux. He dominated and stopped Lemieux, but he was very cautious about Lemieux’s power, had real respect for it. Until Gennadiy goes truly shot, we’ve learned all we’re gonna learn about how he fights against guys like Rolls.

Upcoming Fights: (4) Demetrius Andrade vs (9) Maciej Sulecki, June 29 … (6) Jermall Charlo vs Brandon Adams, June 29 … (7) Rob Brant vs (8) Ryota Murata, July 12 … (1) Canelo Alvarez vs TBA, Sept. 14

126 61119 - Rankings (June 11, 2019): GGG stays firm, Fury up next

Notes: Oscar Valdez didn’t have much trouble on Saturday with Jason Sanchez, a fighter who looked like he might have someday been a more serious title challenger with more than 14 fights, almost all of them pretty low-level. Valdez might stay at 126, but he really might go to 130. He’s improved his boxing under Eddy Reynoso, which makes him less exciting but also makes it less likely that he’ll be a short-prime fighter.

Upcoming Fights: (2) Josh Warrington vs (9) Kid Galahad, June 15 … (8) Shakur Stevenson vs Hairon Socarras, July 13

122 61119 - Rankings (June 11, 2019): GGG stays firm, Fury up next
