The super bantamweights had an early Fight of the Year candidate on Friday.

On Friday night in Inglewood, California, super bantamweights Daniel Roman and TJ Doheny beat the hell out of one another in a grueling 12-round battle that streamed live on DAZN, with Roman dropping Doheny twice and winning a decision to unify the WBA and IBF titles.

The fighters showed their class in the ring immediately afterward, giving one another great credit for a tremendous fight, and that continued in the locker room, with both showing the obviously physical impact of the fight.

Roman (27-2-1, 10 KO) wants to further unify, calling out unbeaten WBC titleholder Rey Vargas, a fight that is very much possible with no promoter issues that should interfere, as Vargas is with Golden Boy and fights on DAZN, as well. And he also may have to first take care of WBA mandatory challenger Murodjon Akhmadaliev.

But someday, we could well see Roman and Doheny do it again. They put on quite the pair of gritty performances, the type that remind us of why, with all the political BS in the sport, we all keep watching boxing.
