Saunders says if Ramirez won’t face him he should give up the belt now.

Billy Joe Saunders has his eyes on another world title, and says he hopes to get a shot at the WBO’s reigning super middleweight titleholder in Gilberto Ramirez. Ramirez just recently made a move to light heavyweight and suggested he’d stay in the division, but has not yet vacated his 168lb world title.

Saunders (27-0, 13 KOs) is currently scheduled to face Shefat Isufi (27-3-2, 20 KOs) for an interim world title, but should Ramirez have his belt vacated it’s expectated that Saunders-Isufi will be elevated to a full world title fight.

Via RingTV:

“I am raring to go for Ramirez, but if he doesn’t want to face me then give up the title and let me fight for the full championship,” said Saunders (27-0, 13 knockouts). “If it’s not going to happen against me after my ‘interim’ title fight, then I would rather him say now.

“(Ramirez) has said he can make (168 pounds) for Callum Smith so I don’t see the problem with myself. If he can make (168 pounds) for Callum, he can make (168 pounds) for me.”

So far Saunders says he’s been carrying more power at 168lbs while still maintaining his timing and speed. Saunders has only fought once last year, stopping Charles Adamu last December in Manchester. He’ll look to have a more eventful year in 2019 but if past history has taught us anything about Saunders, don’t count on it.
