Canelo Alvarez won again, and we can show you precisely how the judges saw the fight over 12 rounds.

There was plenty of noise made when the Nevada State Athletic Commission appointed Glenn Feldman, Dave Moretti, and Steve Weisfeld as the judges for Canelo vs Jacobs, since those same three veterans had Canelo Alvarez beating Gennadiy Golovkin in last September’s rematch, but in the end they all did a fine job.

Scores for the fight were 115-113 (Moretti), 115-113 (Weisfeld), and 116-112 (Feldman), all for Canelo Alvarez, who won a unanimous decision and unifying three title belts at middleweight. BLH had it 115-113 (Scott) and 117-111 (Wil) on our two cards.

The key thing to note is that Jacobs (35-3, 29 KO) dug himself a hole early with the judges, as he trailed 49-46, 49-46, and 50-45 after five rounds. All three judges gave him the sixth, narrowing the scores to 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55 — still trailing, but remaining within striking distance on two of the cards.

All three judges had it even, three rounds apiece, in the second half of the fight, and though it made for competitive scores, it was just too late for Jacobs, who didn’t find the big dramatic push he needed.

After 10 rounds, Moretti and Weisfeld had it 97-93 for Alvarez (52-1-1, 35 KO), before giving Jacobs the final two rounds. Feldman actually gave Canelo the final two rounds, making for the 116-112 score on his card.

Jacobs may be kicking himself on Sunday for not getting into gear faster than he did, but there also may have just been nothing he could have done much differently. Alvarez is a very good fighter, but he did seem to tire a bit down the stretch, giving Jacobs the opening to make it closer over the second half.

When all was said and done, it was competitive, but the win was earned by Canelo Alvarez.
