Joshua Greer Jr will feature on the undercard, as expected.

Rising featherweight contender Shakur Stevenson’s next fight is official, and as previously reported, it will be against Hairon Socarras at Newark’s Prudential Center.

Stevenson (11-0, 6 KO) is a 21-year-old from Newark who won silver at the 2016 Olympics for Team USA, and has been sharp thus far as a pro. Last time out on April 20, he routed Christopher Diaz over 10 rounds on the Crawford-Khan card at Madison Square Garden.

Socarras (22-0-3, 14 KO) is a 26-year-old Cuban with a fairly light record and not much for hype behind his career. He turned pro in 2011. His three draws have come against Lamar Charlton (2011), Marco Antonio Chable (2015), and Gabino Cota (2017), none of whom would be confused for contenders. His best wins have come against the likes of Mike Oliver, who has been shot for years, Jose Nieves, and Jesus Martinez. He last fought on May 19, stopping Martinez in the fifth round in Hollywood, Florida.

Stevenson will be the heavy favorite for this fight, and it might not be long before he gets a crack at a world title if he keeps going as hoped.

Greer (20-1-1, 12 KO) is a 24-year-old bantamweight from Chicago. He started his career 3-1-1, but the loss is really deceiving — it came to Stephen Fulton, who is still unbeaten and just won a minor title at 122 pounds with a victory over Paulus Ambunda.

Greer is a pretty fun fighter to watch. His last seven victories have come via stoppage, including his Feb. 15 win over Giovanni Escaner, where Greer came off the canvas to fight back for the win.
