The WBC super bantamweight title will be on the line in California.

WBC 122-pound titleholder Rey Vargas will defend his belt against Tomoki Kameda on Saturday, July 13, with DAZN airing the fight in the United States.

The bout will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park — the former StubHub/Home Depot Center — in Carson, California.

Vargas (33-0, 22 KO) won his title against Gavin McDonnell in Feb. 2017, when the belt was vacant. Since then, he’s made successful defenses against Ronny Rios, Oscar Negrete, Azat Hovhannisyan, and most recently, Franklin Manzanilla. His Feb. 9 win over Manzanilla did see the 28-year-old Vargas go down in the second round, but it was a clear and wide decision victory for the Mexican fighter.

Kameda (36-2, 20 KO) was at one time seen as the most talented of Japan’s fighting Kameda brothers — a family that includes three-division titleholder Koki and two-division titleholder Daiki — and he won the WBO bantamweight title from Paulus Ambunda in 2013, making three successful defenses before going after the WBA belt held by Jamie McDonnell in 2015. McDonnell beat him in May 2015, then beat him again four months later.

Since the losses to McDonnell, Kameda, now 27, has gone 5-0, and won the interim WBC super bantamweight title last November, beating Abigail Medina at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
