The heavyweight contender returns in two weeks.

Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte spoke to Sky Sports, breaking down how he would fight Andy Ruiz Jr, who currently holds three of the four major and recognized world heavyweight titles by virtue of upsetting Anthony Joshua on June 1.

Whyte believes he could get Ruiz out with the right approach:

“You can’t just go out there and throw a big single against him, because he’s experienced, he’s had over 30 fights. He’ll see the big singles coming. You’ve got to set him up, back up a bit, use your range against him. Let him walk you down and clock him with a shot when he’s not expecting it. … I believe you can [stop Ruiz]. If you’re patient, you take your time with him, I believe you can do him.”

Whyte (25-1, 18 KO) returns on July 20 in London, facing Oscar Rivas (26-0, 18 KO) in an important fight for the division, which is hotter than normal right now, and always attracts significant attention just by being the heavyweights.

The full article linked above is an interesting read, as Whyte clearly has legitimate respect for Ruiz’s skills and abilities, and doesn’t see him as any sort of soft touch just because he wasn’t supposed to beat Joshua last month.

Ruiz (33-1, 22 KO) is set to defend the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts in a rematch with Joshua (22-1, 21 KO) in November or December.
