‘Agent’ Fabinho at it again as he discusses Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp would have a massive, but welcome selection headache on his hands were Liverpool to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer, his former teammate Fabinho has admitted.

The 21-year-old has starred for PSG since in a €180million deal in 2017, but it seems his time in the French capital could be coming to a close amid strong reports linking him with both Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Reports have claimed Liverpool have the funds to sign the France international, but Jurgen Klopp, who met the player’s family members in an bid to convince him to sign for Liverpool two years ago, says they have “absolutely no chance” of signing the player.

“Buying this calibre of player is difficult,” said Klopp. “I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG. I don’t see any club, that is how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.

“OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is. But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance. Sorry for killing that story.”

However, talk the player could be Anfield bound have intensified this week after Mbappe teased a potential move and spoke warmly of his admiration for Liverpool.

However, Fabinho – who has regularly urged his former teammate to consider a move to Anfield – admits his arrival at Liverpool would give Klopp an impossible headache in attack with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in such a rich vein of form and so well established at Anfield.

“At this moment it would be a headache for Liverpool if we had him here because our attacking trio is very good,” he told SPORTbible.

“But I know Mbappe’s quality, he’s already one of the best players in the world, so he would obviously improve any team. Right now he plays for Paris Saint-Germain and we have to respect that.”

Thursday’s win at Wolves means Liverpool have won an incredible 22 of their 23 Premier League matches played, but rather than think of records, Fabinho has urged the Reds to focus only on winning silverware.

“I might be too young to answer this question. But in the last few years we have definitely been one of the best teams,” he said.

“You have to respect the numbers we’re achieving at the moment, even if you don’t want to talk about them.

“Records and stats don’t make us the best, but if we carry on doing what we’re doing we will win trophies. Then we have to keep doing that season after season.”
