Charlton Athletic have been enduring a dry spell in the Championship and it is no coincidence this has come while Lyle Taylor is unavailable.
On the chalkboard
The Addicks have gone on a run of 4 matches without a win, having earned just 2 victories in their last 10 in the Championship.
This follows a blistering start to the season that saw them pick up 4 wins and 2 draws in the first 6 games after earning their place in the second tier through the play-offs.
There are, of course, various factors at play here, but it is surely no coincidence that Charlton’s form has dipped so considerably since Taylor damaged his knee ligaments while on international duty with Montserrat.
Taylor played for the team in the last game of that unbeaten run before sustaining the injury.

A direct comparison of Charlton’s performances with and without the 24-year-old, who is valued at £900k by Transfermarkt, offers an indication into just how much he has been missed:
To see a drop of 1.5 points and 0.5 goals per game is a pretty telling sign of how instrumental he can be for Lee Bowyer.
It is no surprise that they have been scoring fewer goals without him, as he managed to get 5 goals and an assist from the 6 games he took part in prior to his injury.
That record in the final third followed a season in which he made an impressive 38 goal contributions from 45 games in all competitions.
When his record is considered, it is important that he reinstated back into the team as soon as possible, something Bowyer seems to recognise, as he finished his injury update ahead of the Cardiff City game by saying: “I’m going to try everything in my power to try and get him ready.”
It will certainly be a massive for the team if he returns this weekend.
