Announcement close as Daniel Levy sanctions mega deal with talismanic star

Tottenham are hopeful of securing in-form forward Heung-min Son to a huge contract before the end of the year, according to a report.

The South Korean, whose current deal is due to expire in 2023, is in discussions over a bumper new contract at the club.

That follows a devastating run of form since the start of the season. Son has 10 goals in 11 games, including eight in seven in the Premier League.

Kane is established as Tottenham’s top earner on a reported £250,000 a week. He is followed by Tanguy Ndombele (£200,000) and Hugo Lloris (£180,000).

However, a report on Football Insider claims a deal worth £200,000 a week, plus bonuses, will elevate Son closer to Kane. Indeed, his new package will ensure he is second only to Kane in their earnings salary.

Their wages are, of course, dwarved by Gareth Bale. However, his £500,000 a week deal is still largely covered by Real Madrid.

As per the article, Son’s deal has been signed off by Spurs owner Joe Lewis and chairman Daniel Levy. The duo have both been impressed by Son’s form and feel he’s worthy of his new status.

They state since the closing of the transfer window, the pair have made it their priority to secure Son down to a new deal.

Furthermore, it’s believed the arrangement will be made official before the end of the calendar year.

Jose Mourinho suggested last month that Son will likely be rewarded with a hefty new deal to reflect his status at the club.

“I would love that,” he said. “Son has three years of contract so it’s not like we’re in an extreme situation of everybody being worried.

“It’s more that Son loves it here. I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time. Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture.

“It’s normal the club tries to go from three years to four or five or six, I don’t know. It’s normal.

“But it’s a very calm situation because Sonny has three more years of contract.

“But I wish [for him to get a new contract]. He deserves one. The club knows that and sooner or later, without any pressure, they will arrive into a decision.”
