Arsenal boss Emery proves obtrusive in Wolves press conference

Unai Emery has refused to admit that he is thinking about the future make up of his squad at Arsenal.

Reports have suggested that Emery will have less than £50million available to spend in the summer transfer market and that has led to suggestions that he is set to have a clear-out of the squad in a bid to raise some much-needed funds.

The Spaniard though claimed it was not his job to “think about the future” ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Premier League tussle with Wolves.

“My focus in my career and my history is, for the best performance, is to think about the next matches. For me the future doesn’t exist,” said Emery.

“I live in the present. It’s very important in each match to show our performance and then my capacity and for the players to show what they can do, with our supporters.

“We aren’t thinking about the future. You need to play each match thinking about that big spirit to do all we can individually and collectively. I believe in the players and our way.

“We have possibilities, it’s not for me to think about the future.”

Emery, who usually offers up a team news update at his pre-match press conference, changed tact ahead of the Wolves game and kept his cards close to his chest.

Granit Xhaka could come back into contention following a hip injury with fellow midfielder Denis Suarez also being assessed following a groin complaint.

“I want to keep all the information we can have for tomorrow. Sorry. It’s because I think it’s better for us,” added Emery.

“It’s new but maybe today it’s a good change. It’s because maybe I don’t want to be clear how we are playing.

“You know Aaron Ramsey cannot play. Denis Suarez cannot play.”

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in a squabble to finish seventh, a position which could yet yield a place in the Europa League next season.

Emery, who has also guided Arsenal to a Europa League semi-final meeting with Valencia, admits seeing the fight from every team in the division is something he discovered very soon into his managerial career in England and expects a tough evening in the West Midlands.

“I don’t think so,” Emery replied when asked if the Wolves players could now be on the beach.

“They are going to push a lot tomorrow. I worked one thing here very quickly – we are playing against all of the teams and they want to battle us, fighting and playing with a big motivation.

“One is the motivation in the table for each player and one is the motivation against Arsenal. Every team wants to battle us because they respect us and also because it’s important to try to win against us.”

Emery also refused to answer a question on how his first season at Arsenal had gone.

Emery added: “[I can’t] now because each match gives us a chance to take our target or not. My test personally is the same.

“I don’t use my personal situation to show things outside. I want to be together in our test, the team, club, me. We want to achieve our objectives by being in the Champions League through the Premier League or Europa League.”
