Glasgow Rangers have finished second in the Scottish Premiership table after Ibrox-rivals Celtic have been crowned SPFL champions on Monday.

The 2019-20 Scottish Premiership season has been abandoned. The SPFL have ended the season early due to the global health crisis.

As a result, Hearts are now relegated to the Championship. The Gers have finished second behind Celtic who have now won the Scottish Premier League title for the 9th consecutive season.

The SPFL have confirmed in a statement on Monday that they have used the points-per-game system to finalise the standings.

Chris Sutton, former Celtic striker turned popular football pundit, has aimed a cheeky dig at Rangers after the announcement was made.

Rangers have improved immensely under Steven Gerrard in the last couple of years but the gap at the top with the Bhoys is a clear reminder that there’s still a lot of work left to be done.

In fact, for the second season in a row, Rangers have lost the momentum just after the winter break. This is a recurring problem that Gerrard needs to address next season.

Rangers could have reduced the gap a bit had the season been completed, but it was still hard to see Celtic squandering their 13-point lead at the top.

The Bhoys have dominated the Premiership once again, having won 26 games out of 30. They have scored 89 goals and conceded just 19 in the entire campaign.
