Forgotten £25m Everton man facing January exit to reignite career

A rarely seen Everton midfielder is facing the prospect of a loan departure in January in the hopes of reigniting his ailing career.

The Toffees made a superb start to the campaign, notching four league wins on the bounce as feathers were well and truly ruffled.

Their form has since dipped following their 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. Regardless, hopes still remain high of a successful season under Carlo Ancelotti.

A key factor behind their resurgence has been the Italian has being afforded the resources to reshape his squad in his image.

Several of his summer recruits have performed well thus far, including midfield duo Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure,

The pair have added strength and steel to the engine room, while Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and co. provide adequate depth.

One such consequence, however, is the more difficult path back to the first-team now facing £25m signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The Ivory Coast international, 25, has made just two appearances for the club since his arrival in 2019.

Injuries have ravaged his time at Goodison Park, and according to Football Insider, a loan exit in January could be on the cards.

Gbamin is reportedly due to return to Finch Farm soon following a stint in France. While there, he has been working with a health and fitness specialist.

One option could be to retain him as a depth piece throughout the season. However, the outlet state that Gbamin’s exit in the winter window is more likely, describing it as a ‘strong possibility’.

Meanwhile, Besiktas’ club president wants Everton striker Cenk Tosun to return to the club and ‘rejuvenate’ the Turkish giants.

Tosun, 29, scored 64 goals from 142 appearances in all competitions for the Istanbul outfit. The hitman moved to Goodison Park in January 2018 but has enjoyed only limited success on Merseyside.

Having made 25 Premier League appearances in 2018-2019, he then fell down the pecking order. The Turkey international netted just once for Crystal Palace while on loan for the second half of last season.

His time at Selhurst Park was cut short by an anterior cruciate ligament injury picked up during training. He has only just returned to action with the Toffees and is being sparingly used by Carlo Ancelotti. It remains to be seen if he has a future with the club but Cebi has made his feelings clear.

“There is a saying, ‘My dear wants heaven, but my sins do not leave,’” he told BeIN SPORTS (via Sport Witness). “I also want Besiktas to get better players for success. We want to rejuvenate the team. I want a striker transfer.”
