Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar “would like” to join Arsenal and the Gunners are preparing an imminent opening bid for his services, according to reports.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly targeting a move for France Under-21 international Aouar in the coming weeks.
Arteta wants to revamp his midfield and is also targeting a move for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.
Lyon sporting director Juninho confirmed on Tuesday that he has so far received no offers for his prized midfielder.
According to Telefoot Chaine, however, that situation will soon change, with Arsenal ready to step up their interest.
The source claims that a “concrete offer” from Arsenal will “soon” arrive for Aouar.
What’s more, the bid will be worth over €40million (£36million). Although, previous reports suggest Lyon would want at least £40million if they are to sell up.
Regardless, the latest claim adds that Aouar is Arteta’s “priority” for the current transfer window.
AOUAR MAKES ARSENAL FEELINGS CLEAR
Meanwhile, top reporter Fabrizio Romano has offered more insight into Aouar’s stance on the deal.
The journalist claims (via Twitter) that the 22-year-old “would like” to move to the Emirates Stadium.
And while Arsenal have yet to agree a deal, Romano adds that Gunners officials have spoken with the player’s representatives “many times”.
Aouar was a standout performer for Lyon last season, scoring nine goals and assisting 10 others.
However, he has endured a mixed start to the new campaign. While making two Ligue 1 appearances, he received a straight red card in Tuesday’s defeat to Montpellier for dangerous play.
ARSENAL TO SELL BEFORE BUYING
Previous reports have also indicated Arsenal’s need to sell before signing both Aoaur and Partey.
Several players are on the transfer list, including Lucas Torreira and Sead Kolasinac.
Torreira is a target for a move back to Italy, while fellow midfielder Matteo Guendouzi could also be on the way out.
