Hasenhuttl provides mixed injury news on Southampton talisman Ings

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl gave both good and bad news when speaking on the injury that forced Danny Ings off in their clash with Man City.

The Saints battled hard, but ultimately left without a point in a close 1-0 defeat to Man City.

Several Southampton players impressed, with Jannik Vestergaard and James Ward-Prowse in particular matching their opponents step for step.

Their efforts to regain parity were hampered in the first-half when centre-forward Ings suffered a leg injury.

Speaking to the press following the match, Hasenhuttl confirmed Ings’ injury woes. However, he alleviated major concern that the issue was with his recently operated on knee.

“I can’t say now, I think it’s a hamstring problem,” said the Austrian. “He stepped off hopefully early enough.

“I spoke to him before the game and took the risk of letting him play again from the beginning after a long injury.

“I was thinking of leaving him out today. If it wouldn’t have been Man City I wouldn’t have done it I think. But now you do it and you get billed for it.

“This is hopefully not too bad.”
