Goalkeeper Dean Henderson says that Manchester United plan to “take the game” to Manchester City in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash.
The derby rivals meet at Old Trafford for a place in the final. Indeed, the victor will meet Tottenham in April’s showdown after Spurs beat Brentford in Tuesday’s other last-four clash.
However, unlike in previous seasons, the semi-finals are being decided in 90 minutes as opposed to two legs.
English stopper Henderson, who has risen through the ranks at United, is likely to play against City. Indeed, he has featured in each of United’s previous three Carabao Cup ties this season.
Speaking to United’s official website, the 23-year-old outlined how his team plan to go about the match.
“Listen, it’s a completely different ball game from Academy level to first team, so this one will mean a lot,” he said.
“But obviously the vibe will be massive throughout the city. The city is mostly red, and we need to paint it red. But we’re getting better all the time, so hopefully we can get a good result.
“One team has got to win it, so I think both teams will go for it. We’ll probably take the game to them and have a go, and see what comes off.
“I know a few Man City fans from when I was growing up, and obviously there was rivalry between us, even at school and things like that. To beat them and to be involved in it would be a dream come true.
“They’re the sort of things you think about as a young kid. It’d be amazing, and something I’m really looking forward to.”
United head into the match having shown immense domestic form of late. In fact, they are unbeaten in 10 Premier League matches and sit joint-top of the Premier League table.
No excuses for Solskjaer
Meanwhile, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that his side’s recent run proves that there are “no excuses” for his team on Wednesday.
What’s more, the Red Devils have a shoddy semi-final record to amend.
The Old Trafford club have lost each of their previous three last-four showdowns, which have all come in the past 12 months.
