Italian media convinced Tottenham will land exciting £22m striker deal

Tottenham is the most likely next destination for Napoli’s exit-seeking striker Arkadiusz Milik, according to reports in Italy.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to sign a new striker this transfer window.

The Portuguese manager is seeking strong back-up to Harry Kane, his only out-and-out striker.

Reports in recent weeks have mentioned several potential targets, including Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bas Dost.

However Poland international Milik has emerged as a prime candidate more recently. The 26-year-old is reportedly available for €25million (£22million), with Napoli keen to sell.

The Serie A side recently signed Victor Osimhen from Lille and so Milik does not feature in their plans. However he has entered the final year of his contract, meaning this transfer window is likely their last chance to recoup a fee.

Manchester City have also reportedly made an approach for Milik but according to Corrierre dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Tottenham remains “the most authentic” next club for the forward.

The Italian newspaper claims Milik will be “praying” to get a move away, with his relationship with Napoli deteriorating.

Napoli were close to selling him to first Juventus and then Roma, before both deals collapsed.

However there remains a desire to sell up given his contractual situation.

Milik, who has appeared 122 times for Napoli since his 2016 move, is yet to play this season.

Indeed he has not featured in Gennaro Gattuso’s squads for either of his club’s opening two Serie A games.

Napoli have made a solid start, winning their matches 2-0 and 6-0 against Genoa and Parma, respectively.

The pair appeared to clash after Lampard was seen backchatting to Mourinho after the Portuguese firebrand appealed for a foul in the Carabao Cup clash between the sides.

Mourinho though has insisted he came out with no harsh words to the Blues manager.
