Jamie Carragher urges Man Utd to take the money in most scathing criticism of Paul Pogba yet

Paul Pogba should feel “embarrassed” after being told by Jamie Carragher he’s “done nothing in four years” at Manchester United.

The France World Cup-winner has been on the bench for the last two games after being dropped last month against Newcastle.

In fact, the 27-year-old has made just four Premier League starts this season.

His form has been poor and he managed just 10 minutes of action at Goodison Park in the 3-1 win over Everton.

Indeed, pne pundit, Phil Neville, has labelled it a “disgrace” the midfielder can’t a start and has named three players he should be picked ahead of.

However, Carragher completely understands where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is coming from. He thinks Pogba offers very little to United’s midfield and can fully understand why he’s left on the sidelines.

United’s results when Pogba completes 90 minutes also make for a damning assessment. Twice this season he has completed games: the 6-1 home defeat to Spurs and the 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

Addressing Pogba’s struggles throughout his time at United, Carragher claimed he ought to be ashamed of himself.

“We’re still talking about, ‘What is Paul Pogba’s best position?’. He’s been at the club for four years,” Carragher told talkSPORT..

“I think that tells you he’s never done well enough in any position or tactical set-ups under different managers at Manchester United.

“If someone said to me, I could only play well because of a certain manager, I’d be embarrassed.

“People take credit, coaches and managers for different players, maybe bringing them through, or having them at their peak.

“But If I felt that my career would fall down because I never had a certain coach or manager, how well I did was down to me.

“And when I didn’t play well, that was down to me, I wouldn’t blame a coach.

“Pogba’s fans are saying that Jose [Mourinho] is too defensive and Ole isn’t a top-level manager, but for me, I’d be looking at myself.

“He’s played enough games for Manchester United.”

‘No room for Fernandes and Pogba’

Solskjaer has tinkered with his system over the past year. Part of that reason has been to accommodate January signing Bruno Fernandes. But it’s also been due to Pogba’s lack of form and a way to get the best out of the World Cup winner.

However, Solskjaer has stressed he does not think they can play in the same side.

He also reckons the Norwegian is right to leave the former Juventus man on the sidelines.

“They changed the system and his role in that team so often now, to get him in the team. I think Ole, rightly so, has thought: ‘No, I’m going to play 4-2-3-1. I’m going to play [Bruno] Fernandes as my creative player’.

“I’ve been on record that I do not believe Pogba and Fernandes can play in the same team.

“So if you’re going to play Fernandes, he’s been really good since he joined in January, I’d be looking to take the money for Pogba.”
