“Leave my club”, “Waste of space” – Many Crystal Palace fans discuss “criminal” man vs Newcastle

It was a disappointing afternoon for Crystal Palace at Newcastle on Saturday.

The Eagles arguably had the better of the action against the Toon – they had 58% possession and had twice as many shots as their opponents – but in the end, they were beaten 1-0 thanks to a goal from Miguel Almiron – it was his first for the club since joining from Atalanta in January of this year.

The Selhurst Park outfit’s supporters were clearly very disappointed with the performance, as well as the result, and they aimed their frustration at manager Roy Hodgson. So angry were they, some even called for the former England boss to be relieved of his duties.

There is often exaggerated frustration after a late loss, but it seems a little harsh on the 72-year-old all the same. The Eagles are still 12th in the Premier League, after all, and that came after spending just £6.84m during the summer.

Many fans were disappointed with his use of one man in particular: Max Meyer.

The former Schalke man has barely had a sniff so far this campaign. He has started just two matches in the Premier League this term, with just six appearances coming overall. As he showed at times during his stay in the Bundesliga, he clearly has talent – he managed six goals and five assists during the 2015/16 season. However, Hodgson just doesn’t seem to fancy him.

Whilst he has been on the receiving end of much of the supporters’ wrath, some are still backing him.

As previously stated, it does seem unfair that is receiving so much hate. With what he has at his disposal, he appears to be doing the best possible job.

For now, at least, it looks as though those fans who want him gone will have to put up with him a little while longer.

In other news, one former Premier League manager has plenty of praise for Hodgson.
