Leeds Utd face an uphill struggle to land midfield target Rodrigo De Paul after the latest reports revealed two factors going against the Yorkshire club.
The Whites turned heads with their fighting display versus Liverpool after ending their 16-year exile from the Premier League.
Though the result did not go in their favour, the performance left Leeds fans salivating at what could be possible this season.
Their high intensity style has been predicted by some to be unsustainable in the top flight, however, meaning a deep and balanced squad could be more vital than ever.
New signings Rodrigo and Robin Koch were handed their debuts. But should Bielsa have his way, more fresh faces will soon be arriving.
Leeds were heavily linked with a swoop for Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul. Though their initial opening offer was deemed ‘not good enough’ by the Italian side.
Now, according to multiple reports, their quest to sign the Argentine has become even more difficult.
FootballItalia note that Russian powerhouse Zenit St. Petersburgh have entered the frame.
This is backed up by Goal (citing CalcioMercato), who state that Zenit have ‘reached out to discuss a potential move.’
Furthermore, the player himself may not be all that keen on a move to England.
Goal reveal that the player – who is wanted by both Milan sides as well – would prefer a switch to a big Italian club.
The biggest – Juventus – are described in the article as his ‘dream club’.
Leeds in three-way race for Dijon winger
Meanwhile, Leeds, Arsenal and Wolves are all keen on signing Dijon winger Mounir Chouiar for what would be a club-record sale for the French club, according to a report.
The France Under-21 international moved to Dijon from Lens last summer and impressed in his debut season. Indeed, he scored eight goals while laying on two others in 28 games.
L’Equipe (via Get French Football News) now claims that the Premier League trio all hold an interest in the 21-year-old.
While the clubs have yet to table a bid for Chouiar, the report says the interest from England is serious.
In fact, Dijon decided to leave the winger out of the squad for Sunday’s Ligue 1 tie against Brest. The French newspaper claims the omission is directly related to the speculation over his future.
