Liverpool lodge loan offer for Barcelona outcast with Werner deal on backburner

Liverpool have made a loan offer for Ousmane Dembele, according to a report.

Italian transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio says the Reds have put forward an offer “in the last few days” that includes an option to buy.

Apparently though Dembele is not keen on leaving the Camp Nou, although both parties will be hoping their can persuade him a season-long loan could kick-start his career.

Don Balon claimed Liverpool were suitors for the winger in October and TEAMtalk exclusively revealed in June 2019 that Barcelona intermediaries told Liverpool that Dembele would be made available last summer, and that Anfield was, in fact, one of his preferred destinations.

Marca recently claimed “the Frenchman is one of the transferable footballers on the squad” and the Spanish publication say Barca will take a cut-price €60m for the troublesome Frenchman – a loss of  €80m on the player.

Juventus are also interested in taking Dembele on loan ahead of the 2020-21 season, claims a report in Spain.

All the indications are that Barca are trying to offload the 23-year-old and Mundo Deportivo report the Serie A giants are interested in a season-long loan move due to his recent playing record.

Barca apparently have doubts over the player’s physical and mental state, while Mundo stated that he was the only one who did not connect to the video conference that coach Quique Setien organised on April 14.

Timo Werner Plan B

Barcelona are said to be open to a loan, but Quique Setien’s side want to include a purchase clause option, if they continue to pay his wages, however it appears Dembele is refusing to move on.

Whether Liverpool made their move after moving on from a deal for Timo Werner remains to be seen. Only last week the The Sun (who cited Mundo Deportivo) reported that the Frenchman had become Liverpool’s “top back-up option” should the Werner deal not materialise.

The Reds are apparently not keen on paying Werner’s £50million release clause and are “now no longer willing to pay more than £30million for him due to the financial constraints caused by the coronavirus crisis”.
