Ljungberg gives update on Arsenal future after dull draw at Everton

Freddie Ljungberg felt Arsenal deserved more as his interim spell in charge ended with a 0-0 draw at Everton on Saturday.

New Gunners boss Mikel Arteta watched on from the stands as the two teams played out a lifeless draw at Goodison, with Arsenal having the only two shots on target in the game.

Afterwards, Ljungberg said: “We dominated possession but we would have liked to get more out of it. We put a lot of young players out because I wanted to reward players who had trained well.

“I’ve learned a lot and it’s been a proud time for me to lead this amazing club.

“I knew I was interim manager to steady the ship and I feel like I’ve done that. It’s great the club has taken the decision and now we move forward.”

On Arteta’s appointment, the Swede added: “Mikel knows the club very well – he’s been here a long time. The club has told me they want me to stay, so I will speak to Mikel tomorrow and go from there.”

Meanwjile, Arsenal could be offered Luka Jovic as part of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s potential transfer to Real Madrid in January.

That is according to a report in The Mirror, who state that the Serbian forward could be used a sweetener should the La Liga side make a move for Aubameyang when the window opens next month.

Following a strong season for Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018/19, in which he scored 27 goals in 48 appearances, Jovic moved to the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this year as ‘Los Blancos’ made a number of high-profile additions to their squad.

However, the 21-year-old has struggled in Spain and has featured just ten times for Madrid so far, scoring once, and it has been suggested that Zidane is already prepared to move the £53.1 million signing on.

And with Aubameyang said to be unsettled at Arsenal with the North London club failing to show any signs of improvement, Real are reported to be considering offering Jovic as part of a swap deal for the Gabon international forward. Read more…
