Man Utd confirm ‘future’ deal for rising star winger, but three hurdles remain

Manchester United have confirmed that Atalanta winger Amad Traore will sign for the club at a later date, likely to be January.

The 18-year-old is yet to secure a work permit, agree personal terms or pass a medical, the club said.

A United statement read: “Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the future transfer of Amad Diallo, one of the most exciting young prospects in Italian football.

“The 18-year-old Ivorian right-winger has been on the radar of United scouts since 2016, when he was spotted playing at Under-15 level, and the club have been tracking his progress since.”

Traore has one goal from three appearances for the Atalanta first team, making him the first player born in 2002 to score in Serie A.

United have been chasing a winger all summer, with Jadon Sancho their top target at first. Ousmane Dembele then became their backup plan.

Traore could be a good option for the long-term, despite only playing 24 minutes of Serie A football to date.

He did though make an instant impact, netting on his Italian top-flight debut after rising through Atalanta’s ranks.

The Manchester Evening News says that United will pay £19m up front, with £8.5m in add-ons for Traore.

United’s move for the teenager came after his move to Parma broke down at the last minute.

Parma had reached an advanced stage in talks to sign the forward before Atalanta learned of the Red Devils’ interest.

As such, Traore’s club then blocked his move across Serie A and decided to do business with United instead.
