Man Utd defender deal in jeopardy as Solskjaer irked by Real Madrid tactic

Manchester United are unwilling to press ahead with a deal for Sergio Reguilon while Real Madrid insist on a buy-back clause for the left-back, according to a report.

United are in the market for new defenders as boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to revamp his squad. The Norwegian wants a new centre-back, although such a move is now on hold.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils also want a new left-back, with previous reports claiming Madrid have offered United the chance to sign Reguilon.

That has peaked the Old Trafford club’s interest, although the Daily Mirror now says United have concerns about the deal.

Principally, Madrid want a buy-back clause inserted into the deal. That would offer the Spanish giants first refusal, should Reguilon impress at his new club.

The clause could amount to a similar price to his sale value, which previous assertions claim is £18million.

United, though, are aware that such a move would end their chances of making profit on the left-back.

The newspaper adds that Solskjaer wants to sign a new left-back due to concerns about Luke Shaw. The Englishman has struggled to prove his long-term fitness in his time with United.

What’s more, while Brandon Williams recently signed a new deal, the 19-year-old requires further development.

Reguilon, 23, is a United target following his standout performances on loan at Sevilla last season. The Spaniard impressed as his side won their sixth Europa League crown.

Chelsea were previously keen but Madrid also informed them of the buy-back clause. The Blues instead opted to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester in a £50million deal.

Manchester City want to sign the Senegal international but negotiations continue to stall.

As such, United could step in and assume control, with Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis previously touting the Red Devils as contenders for Koulibaly.
