Manchester United are to do battle with Barcelona over the signing of Rennes youngster Eduardo Camavinga, according to reports.
The 17-year-old, who was promoted from the French club’s B team in January, has risen to prominence this term having appeared in 12 of his side’s 13 Ligue 1 games so far.
Such form has seen him linked with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City but according to The Sun, United have now joined the race for the player.
The newspaper says that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will go head-to-head with reigning La Liga champions Barca to sign him, the Catalan club also impressed by his performances.
What’s more, Camavinga reportedly has a £26.5m release clause in his current deal – which expires in 2022 – with United seeing the youngster as the ideal replacement for Paul Pogba if the midfielder leaves the club in the summer.
Camavinga, who was born in Angola, was recently awarded French citizenship and earned his first Under-21 cap for the World Cup champions when he was called up to replace Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi, who was moved up to the senior squad.
The midfielder has made 17 appearances overall for Rennes so far.
