Neville shocked by ’embarrassing’ aspect of Man Utd’s Sancho shambles

Gary Neville says the fact that Manchester United have had a bid rejected by Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho is “embarrassing”.

United have chased Sancho throughout the transfer window but progress over a deal has stalled in recent weeks.

Indeed talk of the move ramped up when Sancho agreed personal terms with the Old Trafford club. However Dortmund’s £108million valuation of the 20-year-old has proved the key sticking point.

Manchester United have reportedly had two bids rejected, the latest reaching £99million.

Neville though says it is a hallmark of the top clubs to wrap up deals for star players without any fuss.

“Honestly, the Sancho thing is embarrassing. It’s embarrassing,” he told Off the Ball. “It’s been going on for four months now. To put in a bid that gets rejected…

“Who puts bids in nowadays that aren’t accepted? That doesn’t happen that often.

“I know Leeds did it with Ben White, but they knew the player and they put bids in to create pressure on Brighton.

“But generally, clubs have the deals sorted, the agents know what the player is getting, the player knows what the clubs are getting, the clubs know what the others are getting.

“I just don’t understand it at all. I don’t know, it’s not great. It’s not great.”

United are closing in on their second signing of the transfer window, though. Former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani will arrive in England on Sunday to complete a move to Old Trafford.

Telles is United’s top left-back target, as Solskjaer looks for competition for Luke Shaw.

However the Red Devils are supposedly unwilling to match Telles’ asking price.
