Scott Parker admitted that Fulham will have to learn how to react to defeat after their return to the Premier League started with a loss.
Parker guided Fulham back into the top flight at the first time of asking last season by winning the Championship play-offs.
However, their first game back in the Premier League ended in defeat, as Arsenal claimed a convincing 3-0 victory.
It was not the start Fulham were hoping for, although in truth, few would have expected them to get anything out of the game.
And Parker admits they know they will experience defeat on several occasions this season – urging them to improve the fine margins.
He told BT Sport: “We know we’re going to lose football matches, but it’s how we react to defeat and move forward as a team that will be the bigger test for me and my team.
“We all realise the challenge ahead, but in saying that for 45 minutes in that first half I liked a lot about us.
“The fine margins at this level is that you need to be a bit more ruthless when chances fall.
“Second half at times we accepted things and we were a little vulnerable in the way the goals went in.
“But this is our journey. We understand where we need to get to and improve.”
Arteta praises unsung hero
Meanwhile, Parker’s opposite number Mikel Arteta took plenty of positives from Arsenal’s winning start.
The Spaniard was impressed by two debutants, but it was someone who has been at the club since Arteta’s own playing days who received his biggest praise.
