Thomas Partey will be the perfect remedy for an area where Arsenal have been “vulnerable” for a long time.
That’s the opinion of Danny Murphy, who thinks Mikel Arteta made some shrewd signings over the summer transfer window.
Partey was the biggest arrival for Arsenal after they activated his €50m release clause on deadline day. The Ghanaian midfielder joined from Atletico Madrid to cap off a successful transfer market for the Gunners, who also signed Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille and brought Dani Ceballos back on loan from Real Madrid, among other deals.
It has led many to predict a much more successful season for Arsenal, who suffered their lowest finish of the 21st Century in 2019-20, but ended the campaign on a high note with victory in the FA Cup.

With Arteta since having led them to victory in the Community Shield as well, there is fresh optimism at the Emirates Stadium.
The addition of Partey in particular has been important to that sense of belief, with many feeling he will be a big success in the Premier League.
And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy also thinks Partey will make a difference to Arsenal.
“I think Arteta’s recruitment in the summer was also hugely impressive,” Murphy told the Football Index podcast.
“I think Partey will be huge and it’s an area that the club has been vulnerable in for quite some time.
“He will provide the athleticism and tenacity in midfield that they have been missing in the middle of the pitch.
“I’m glad Ceballos is back again on loan and he shows a lot of attacking intent with his passes.
“Gabriel has also slotted into central defence and he looks like the real deal in the Premier League already.”
Partey made his debut in Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday as a late substitute.
Arteta explains why Partey is right recruit
Speaking before that game, Arteta explained why they had identified Partey as a top target for the transfer window.
“We need a balance between a lot of young players that we have in some breakthrough or development phases and others that are at the peak or twilight of their careers,” he said.
“We believe that he is the right recruit for us in terms of age, in terms of his history and career, where he has been educated, the amount of experience he has and the quality that he has to adapt to our game model and as well to this very competitive league.
“I have seen the buzz around the place, the fans are really happy, I have seen some really positive reactions after we bought him, the same with the team, the squad and the staff.”
