Pundit rips into Pogba; warns Klopp wouldn’t tolerate performance flaw

Paul Pogba has been informed that his application in matches would not be accepted by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Pogba signed for United for a then-world-record fee in 2016 but he has largely failed to showcase his true talent.

The 2019/20 season quite possibily summed up his time at Old Trafford. The midfielder had two separate foot injuries which wrecked his campaign. He only made eight appearances prior to the shutdown of the sport across Europe.

That led to a renewed round of speculation suggesting United had a strong desire to sell up.

However, Pogba managed to pull round his form and put in some inspired displays alongside Bruno Fernandes. That helped United secure a third-placed finish and bring Champions League football back to Old Trafford.

Despite the improvement, the jury remains out on Pogba.

Accoridng to Danny Murphy, Pogba has the ability. However, his application off the ball leaves a lot to be desired. As such, the pundit is adamant he would get nowhere near Klopp’s favoured side were he a Liverpool player.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Murphy believes Pogba does not cover the back four a player of his ability should do from the midfield.

He said: “Because Pogba’s got everything, he could defend better than he does.

“But he doesn’t, for some reason, and I don’t know whether that’s the lack of consequence for not defending.

“Pogba wouldn’t get in Klopp’s midfield, I don’t think.

“He might if he was going to work as hard as he was supposed to but I don’t think the likes of Klopp would put up with midfielders defending like that.”

Alex Telles deal on for United

United, meanwhile, have submitted a new and improved offer in their bid to sign Porto left-back Alex Telles, according to a report.

United have put much of their focus into signing a winger this transfer window. However the hunt for their top target has stalled, with Borussia Dortmund standing firm on Jadon Sancho‘s £108million valuation.

As such, left-back has become a priority area for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to improve upon. The Red Devils boss is keen to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Telles has now emerged as United’s top target, with Sergio Reguilion moving to Tottenham. Indeed reports on Monday claimed that Old Trafford chiefs had made their first official bid.

That bid reportedly fell “significantly” short of Porto’s asking price and, as such, RMC Sport now says that United have submitted a second bid for the 27-year-old.
