Solskjaer, Woodward in row as Man Utd refuse £6m defender leap of faith

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his superiors – including Ed Woodward – to pay what it takes to sign Alex Telles, according to a report.

Porto left-back Telles is one of United’s top targets this transfer window but a deal looks increasingly unlikely. United have so far offered only £12million for the Brazilian, with Porto demanding £18million.

However recent reports suggest the Portuguese side now want more. Porto have supposedly become frustrated at United for making negotiations ‘protracted’ and, as such, have raised their asking price.

The Sunday Mirror insists that Porto are still demanding £18million but adds that United continue to refuse to increase their offer.

As such, Solskjaer has taken action by describing to his superiors the importance of the deal to his side’s progression this season.

The Red Devils are looking for competition for Luke Shaw and believe Telles is an ideal signing.

However with a deal looking more and more unlikely, Solskjaer has reportedly taken the situation into his own hands.

This is reportedly the second time United’s hierarchy and Solskjaer have clashed. Solskjaer is supposedly willing to sell Daniel James for £25million, something executive vice-chairman Woodward is against.

The over-arching idea from James’ sale would be to raise funds to launch a winning bid for Jadon Sancho. Borussia Dortmund want £108million for the winger, a fee United have so far failed to match.

Man Utd to sign Cavani

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are close to making their second major signing of the window. Free agent striker Edinson Cavani, 33, will arrive in England on Sunday to complete his move to Old Trafford.

Despite claims that the signing has come due to growing panic from United, the club are well aware of the impact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s free transfer had.

What’s more, they feel former Paris Saint-Germain marksman Cavani can offer vital leadership and support for United’s’ young attack.
