West Ham boss David Moyes has not actively pushed the club to sign Said Benrahma and was not intent on signing the winger, according to a report.
TEAMtalk revealed on Wednesday that a deal to move Benrahma across London from Brentford is close; the two parties hope the deal will go through by Friday morning.
The breakthrough comes after previous disagreements, which West Ham and Brentford have resolved.
According to Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones, however, Moyes has not been “bothered” about signing Benrahma.
The Algerian scored 17 Championship goals last season and has two goals in three games so far this campaign. But Jones claims (via Twitter) that the 25-year-old never moved into Moyes’ transfer radar in recent weeks.
Instead, Moyes wanted a centre-back – with Jones also pointing out in a separate tweet that former Watford man Craig Dawson not his top target. The 30-year-old arrived on a season-long loan and could make the move permanent next summer.
However, West Ham had three bids rejected for Burnley’s England international James Tarkowksi. The third offer reportedly reached £31million, with the Clarets unwilling to sell for that price.
Indeed Hammers co-owner David Sullivan went on record about the club’s pursuit of Tarkowski. Sullivan aired his frustrations at Burnley’s unwillingness to lower their valuations.
Right-back Vladimir Coufal is West Ham’s only other signing of the recent signing. Midfielder Tomas Soucek also penned a long-term contract after his loan move to London in January.
Despite the frustrations over signings, however, Moyes’ men have started the season brightly. Aside from a defeat to Arsenal, West Ham have picked up three wins and three clean sheets.

Benrahma deal to feature £8m clause
Meanwhile, the deal for Benrahma will cost an initial £17million, rising to £25million with potential add-ons.
What’s more, West Ham must pay their fellow Londoners £8million if and when they sell the winger.
That clause will remain regardless of the price of any sale.
